Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift System
The change is subtle but the difference is immense Yamaha’s FJR1300AS is ready to challenge the way you think about motorcycles. Its innovative and intuitive gear shift system – Yamaha Chip Controlled Shift (YCC-S) – makes rider fatigue history, whether you’re on a city street or deserted mountain pass. It’s time to hit the horizon.
What is YCC-S? The YCC-S system is essentially a manual transmission with a computer-controlled clutch. Internally, the FJR1300A’s 5-speed transmission and clutch remain intact; however, we’ve added a clutch controller and electronic shift actuator, all connected to a sophisticated computer, providing perfect clutchless manual shifting in any situation. The YCC-S system can be operated by hand or by foot shift. The following steps will explain how it works:
How does it work?
Step 1
Turn the ignition key into (start) position.

Step 2
Start the bike whilst pulling the front brake lever at the same time.

Step 3
Put the bike into neutral (at the bottom) using the foot gear shift.

Riding with standard foot shift: To ride with foot shift, ride your FJR as standard but without the clutch lever. The digital gear indicator will show which gear has been selected.

Riding with hand shift:To ride with hand shift, press the hand shift select button on the left handlebar. A green LED will light, confirming your selection. (Please note: The foot shift switch is always on stand-by.)

Step 4
The bike will not allow you to change out of neutral if the throttle is opened and the rpm is high.
If hand shift is selected:
First gear is engaged by pressing the hand shift switch with your left finger. Use the thumb-actuated switch to downshift. Use the finger-actuated switch to upshift.

Step 5
To stop, apply the brakes and downshift by hand or foot as normal. The YCC-S system will disengage the clutch before the motorcycle is completely stopped.

Step 6
If you park in gear, the clutch will engage three seconds after the ignition has been switched off, and act as a brake. Switching from foot to hand shift and vice versa whilst riding: You are able to switch from foot to hand shift by pressing the hand shift select button any time during the ride.

The green LED will light, confirming your selection. Once this is done you will be able to use the hand shift switch any time during the ride. Since the foot shift switch is always on stand-by, you can change gear by foot at any time. It is possible to switch the hand shift button off whilst riding, and the foot shift switch will remain on stand-by.
